The Aaron Academy High School program continues to build on the strengths and interests that students identify and explore in Middle School. It is a highly individualized program, in effect, a “trackless” school in which students will have opportunities to demonstrate strength in unique areas.
Students build foundational skills in traditionally departmentalized classes: English, History, Mathematics, Sciences, and Art – in addition to 21st Century skills such as technological fluency, global literacy, research skills, and foreign language. The curriculum is globally focused, and balances discrete skill instruction with applied skills, working with industry partnerships to foster post-secondary opportunities such as college and internships. Students engage in rigorous study in all topic areas, with a special focus on cross integration: attention to how each subject informs another.
Aaron Academy High School features strong math and science programs, which are globally focused and have a high level of technology integration. There is a strong writing component to math and science, specifically in interactional relationships with fellow students and scientists around the world through collaborative learning environments with other students, teachers, and scientists. Students publish their work to iTunes University in the form of video and audio podcasts, and gather and share data with working scientists as part of the GLOBE Project. These are a few of many examples in which students are taught, and expected to integrate communication and collaboration skills with learning in mathematics and science.
In all areas, there is an overlay of art and technology – teachers collaborate to design activities which integrate art and technology into each of the subject areas. Art is also taught as a discrete skill, in the areas of Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Graphic Arts, Culinary Arts and Physical Arts.
